The History of FleetNet America
FleetNet began in 1953 as the internal breakdown department for Carolina Freight Corporation based in Cherryville, NC. In 1993 the department was incorporated into Carolina Breakdown Service to allow the opportunity for other trucking companies to take advantage of an established nationwide breakdown service which already had established itself as providing meaningful data along with a timely repair. In 1995, Carolina Freight was purchased by Arkansas Best Corporation (NASDAQ: ABFS) which is still our parent today. The majority of our coordinators were previously employed by Carolina Freight Carriers and were secured by FleetNet America after the merger with Arkansas Best Corporation in 1995. Our coordinators represent an average of over 20 years in fleet maintenance ranging from shop management to floor mechanic, as well as tire and recapping venues. In 1997 we experienced a name change to FleetNet America, Inc.
FleetNet America is a wholly owned subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corporation of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Arkansas Best Corporation has annual revenues in excess of $1 billion.
Another reflection of our company's experience is reflected in our general participation in TMC (Technology and Maintenance Council) of the ATA (American Transportation Association). Mr. Oren Summer served as Chairman of the TMC in 1996. Mr. Summer was awarded with the prestigious national honor from CCJ Magazine with the “Career Leadership Award” in March 2005.
There are numerous other industry associations and committees that various members of FleetNet’s staff are members of or otherwise participate in.
